Ancient Cities

Explore six of the great cities of the Classical world: the Greek cities of Athens, Syracuse and Alexandria and end with the Roman cities of Rome, Ephesus and Constantinople. All were influential centres of political power and remain destinations for travellers today. Investigate their history, archaeology and daily life.

Classical Turkey

Tuesdays, January 30 - March 6, 6:30 - 9:30 pm (6 weeks)

Instructor: Meg Morden

Greek culture flourished in western Turkey during the first millennium BCE. Major developments in philosophy, mathematics, poetry, history, architecture, sculpture and painting occurred in the city states on the islands and the mainland stretching from the Bosphoros to Rhodes. This region was the birthplace of Homer, Sappho, Herodotus, Thales and many other major contributors to western culture.
