Initially,
Evans restored the fresco fragments he found in a group in
the North Insula as a blue-skinned youth (above, top left)
but it has since become apparent that blue was the colour
commonly used to represent apes in both Egyptian and Aegean
art. Similar frescoes found at Akrotiri on the island of Santorini
(above right) have provided clues for the proper
restoration (above, bottom left). |
