Before meeting the group in Glasgow, I took the opportunity of spending a few days on the island of Mull off the west coast of Scotland. The main reason I wanted to make the crossing was to get the lay of the land for a forthcoming trip through the Western Isles—from Lewis in the north to Arran in the south. I had never been there before and at last I was going to fulfil a long ambition to walk in the footsteps of Saint Columba on Iona. Mull was lovely and showery with bright sunshine and loads of rainbows. One of the classic 'romantic Scotland' movies is I Know Where I'm Going, shot by Michael Powell on Mull in glorious black-and-white back in 1945. He had a very good eye for locations.

Enjoy the photos.
