The
Lake District in Cumbria is a walker's paradise with a rich archaeological
heritage and we took advantage of both aspects during our stay.
There are two excellent stone circles one at Swinside near
Broughton-in-Furness in the south and the other at Castelrigg just
outside Keswick in the north. The Roman fort at Hard Knot is probably
the best preserved in all of Britain and is undoubtedly the most
dramatically situated.
As
far as the walking went, we had a number of occasions to stretch
our legs in and around Keswick at Derwent Water as well as at Buttermere.
