Girne (or Kyrenia as it is known to
Greek Cypriotes) is undoubtedly the prettiest town in
Cyprus. It is located on the narrow stretch of coast
between the Kyrenia Mountains and the sea and had the
only decent harbour along the entire north coast. |

harbour has always been heavily fortified and the present
day castle is the product of Roman, Byzantine, Lusignan
and Venetian military activity. |
