The Chalcolithic village of Lemba-Lakkous
was excavated by Scottish archaeologists in the 1970's
and early 80's. The excavated houses have been used
as the basis for a reconstructed village that is the
subject of an ongoing study of patterns of use and decay.
The information gathered will be of tremendous importance
in the interpretation of future excavations. |

| Further
along the coast road is the small fishing village of
Ayios Georgios. Just offshore lies
the small island of Yeronisos where the remains of a
Neolithic settlement have been found and which is now
the subject of an interdisciplinary research project
aimed at recording its archaeological and environmental
history. |

an ancient sanctuary, which may have been founded by
Cleopatra (the famous one) and dedicated to Apollo.
